How Did Jesus Christ Handle Stress?

Jesus Christ set us an
example of how he
handled stress. When
He and his disciples
had no time even to
eat because of the
large crowds of
people who wanted to
be close to Jesus to
hear his preaching and
to be healed by him,
Jesus told his disciples
to come away by
themselves alone to
the desert and rest
a while.

Mark
6:31 And he said unto them,
Come ye yourselves apart
into a desert place, and rest
a while: for there were many
coming and going, and they
had no leisure so much as
to eat.

Getting away from their
non-stop ministry of
sharing the gospel of
Jesus Christ and being
surrounded by the constant
noise of large crowds of
people pushing and shoving
to get closer to Jesus is
why Jesus was taking his
disciples away from it
all - to a quiet place
alone. We can learn by
His example.

But you don't have to go
to a desert or a mountain
retreat to get away like
they did. Perhaps you have
a quiet spot at home, at a
park, in a library corner,
or some place with no
distractions and total
quiet so you can hear
what God's "still small
voice" is speaking to
your heart.

1 Kings
19:11 And he said, Go
forth, and stand upon the
mount before the LORD.
And, behold, the LORD
passed by, and a great
and strong wind rent the
mountains, and brake in
pieces the rocks before
the LORD; but the LORD
was not in the wind: and
after the wind an
earthquake; but the
LORD was not in the
earthquake:
19:12 And after the
earthquake a fire; but
the LORD was not in
the fire: and after the
fire a still small voice.

If you do not have such
a quiet place to have
some quiet time with
God to un-stress, then
perhaps you can use
earplugs or cotton
balls in your ears to
shut out distracting
sounds. And you can
shut out visual
distractions such as cell
phones and texting, the
internet, music,
television, etc. Those
texts or email messages
will wait for just a little bit
so you can unburden
yourself to God and
find peace and comfort
by talking to and
listening to your loving,
heavenly Father God,
the God of all Comfort.

Psalm 46:10
Be still [quiet], and
know that I am God:
I will be exalted among
the heathen, I will be
exalted in the earth.

2 Corinthians 1:3
Blessed be God, even
the Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Father
of mercies, and the
God of all comfort;

Philippians
4:6 Be careful [anxious]
for nothing; but in every
thing by prayer and
supplication with
thanksgiving let your
requests be made
known unto God.

4:7 And the peace of
God, which passeth all
understanding, shall
keep your hearts and
minds through Christ
Jesus.

And what is the reward for
that quiet time with God?
You can ask God to take
care of those problems
that you cannot handle;
you can ask him for help
with your fears, your
doubts, and the
uncertainties of your
life that may seem
overwhelming or scary,
or maybe you are just
very tired. And you can
receive peace, comfort,
and strength from your
loving Saviour, Jesus
Christ. I love this next
verse that I need to
remember - "wait upon
the Lord" means to
wait patiently for His
answer to our
prayers. Lord, please give
me patience to trust that
you know what is the best
time for your answer to
my prayer. The answer
may not be the solution I
thought of, but you know
everything, and so I need
to trust Him that He wants
what is best for me. Please
God help me to be thankful
for whatever your answer
to my prayer may be, and
to be patient waiting for
you to answer. Thank
you, Lord. In Jesus'
precious name I pray.
Amen.

Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon
the LORD shall renew their
strength; they shall mount
up with wings as eagles; they
shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not
faint.

1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your care upon
him [Jesus Christ]; for he
careth for you.

John 14:27 [Jesus said:]
Peace I leave with you, my
peace I give unto you: not
as the world giveth, give I
unto you. Let not your
heart be troubled, neither
let it be afraid.

Matthew 28:20 (Jesus:
)
Teaching them to observe
all things whatsoever I have
commanded you: and, lo,
I am with you alway, even
unto the end of the world.
Amen.

Philippians
4:6 Be careful for nothing
[be anxious for nothing];
but in every thing by
prayer and supplication
with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known
unto God.
4:7 And the peace of
God, which passeth all
understanding, shall
keep your hearts and
minds through Christ
Jesus.

Now below are Bible verses
showing some of the times
that Jesus Christ went
alone to pray to his
heavenly Father. Now if
Jesus, the Son of God,
needed lots of time alone
in prayer with God the
Father in heaven, how much
more time do you think we
need in order to be able to
handle the stresses and
cares of living in this
fallen world?

Matthew 14:23
And when he [Jesus Christ]
had sent the multitudes
away, he went up into a
mountain apart to pray:
and when the evening
was come, he was
there alone.

Mark 1:35
And in the morning,
rising up a great
while before day, he
went out, and
departed into a solitary
place, and there prayed.

Mark 6:46
And when he had sent
them [his disciples] away,
he departed into a mountain
to pray.

Luke 5:16
And he withdrew himself
into the wilderness
[desert], and prayed.

Luke 6:12
And it came to pass in
those days, that he went
out into a mountain to pray,
and continued all night
in prayer to God.

John 6:15
When Jesus therefore
perceived that they would
come and take him by
force, to make him a king,
he departed again into
a mountain himself
alone.

Because we live in such
high-stress, fast-paced
world, where there is
constant noise and never
ending busyness, we
need to take that time to
be alone with our loving,
heavenly Father (like
Jesus did) in order to
take a deep breath, and
to rest in quiet time with
Him!

God loves you, and didn't
intend for you to carry your
stresses and cares all
alone. Having quiet time
alone with your heavenly
Father, as Jesus Christ
always did, will refresh
your body and soul to
handle another day in
your noisy, chaotic
world!

Jesus sometimes spent all
night in prayer, talking with
our heavenly Father. If
He often went to be alone
to pray to his heavenly
Father and to hear from
him, then how much more
do you and I need that
quiet time alone with
Him?

Maybe we need to add
'Quiet time with the Lord'
to our daily to-do schedule?
Sharing your daily cares
with the Lord will unburden
your mind and refresh
your body. And, since
stress can cause major
health problems, quiet
time with Him will be
good for your health!

Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in
perfect peace, whose
mind is stayed [focused]
on thee [God]: because
he trusteth in thee.

Remember...God wants
you to go to Him with
all of your problems, your
stress, your fears, your
concerns, your worries,
your tiredness, everything!
Here is one of my
favorite Bible verses - it
got me through when I
faced all the many tests
and exams before
double breast cancer
surgery and 17 double
doses of radiation
treatments, a minor
thing compared to
some poor people I met
in the radiation
department; but still a
bit scary just because
it was something new
to me. But repeating
Bible verses helped a
great deal when tests and
procedures were painful
or uncomfortable.

1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your care upon
him [Jesus Christ]; for he
careth for you.

Jesus Christ said before he
was resurrected back into
heaven that he will give us
his peace. When I am
troubled or anxious, it helps
to ask for that peace
because I tend to worry if
I don't depend on Jesus.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my
peace I give unto you: not
as the world giveth, give I
unto you. Let not your
heart be troubled,
neither let it be afraid.

And here is another of
my favorite verses that
helps me get through
things that seem difficult. I
repeated this verse when I
was going through
procedures that were
uncomfortable and a
bit painful.

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through
Christ which strengtheneth
me.

I pray that this Bible study
has been a comfort to you.
God is so good to provide
us with his Holy Word, the
King James Bible, to give
us the comfort and strength
to live godly lives as
followers of Jesus Christ in
this turbulent, chaotic world
we live in.
