What Does The Bible Say About Christians Cursing?

Words in bold in Scripture
verses are for emphasis.

Words of Jesus Christ are
in red.

When we Christians use curse
words (no matter how often
non-Christians use them and
they seem unimportant) we
are ruining our testimony as
a follower of Jesus Christ!
Why? Because the Bible
verses below teach us that
Christians should be
dignified and our speech
should be beyond reproach
so that non-Christians have
nothing bad to say about
us. Remember that we are
to be ambassadors for
Jesus Christ. Would Jesus
Christ use the curse words
we are use in His daily
speech?

Titus
2:7 in all things show
yourself to be an example
of good deeds, with purity
in doctrine, dignified,

2:8 sound in speech which
is beyond reproach, so
that the opponent will be
put to shame, having
nothing bad to say about
us.

Ephesians
4:29 Let no corrupt
communication proceed
out of your mouth, but that
which is good to the use
of edifying [uplifting others],
that it may minister grace
unto the hearers.

Matthew
15:10 And he [Jesus Christ]
called the multitude, and
said unto them, Hear, and
understand:

15:11 Not that which goeth
into the mouth defileth a man;
but that which cometh out
of the mouth, this defileth
a man.

Matthew 12:36
But I say unto you, That
every idle word that men
shall speak, they shall
give account thereof in
the day of judgment.

James
1:26 If any man among you
seem to be religious, and
bridleth not his tongue,
but deceiveth his own
heart, this man's religion
is vain.

"Taking the Lord's name in
vain" means that we are not
praying to the Lord nor
talking about Him, but we
are either using God's Holy
name to damn someone or
something, or using the
name of our Lord Jesus
Christ as a swear word.
The Lord does not take it
lightly when we use His
Holy Name in vain [for
no purpose] as a
curse word.

Exodus
20:7 Thou shalt not take
the name of the LORD
thy God in vain; for the
LORD will not hold him
guiltless that taketh his
name in vain.

Deuteronomy
5:11 Thou shalt not take
the name of the LORD
thy God in vain: for the
LORD will not hold him
guiltless that taketh his
name in vain.
