The Bible On God's Holy Spirit!

The New Testament has 89
references to the Holy
Ghost, and 4 references to
the Holy Spirit. The Holy
Ghost and the Holy Spirit
are one in the same Person.
What follows are just some
of those verses that help us
understand the third Person
of the Godhead, God the
Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit.
The Holy Ghost / Holy Spirit
is part of the Godhead (God
the Father, God the Son,
and God the Holy Ghost).

1 John 5:7

For there are three that bear
record in heaven, the Father,
the Word [Jesus Christ the
Son of God and God the
Son], and the Holy Ghost:
and these three are one.

The Holy Ghost is "the
Comforter" who comforts
us. He also convicts us of
sin so we can have a clean
heart before God.

John (Jesus Christ said:)

16:7 Nevertheless I tell you
the truth; It is expedient for
you that I go away: for if I
go not away, the Comforter
will not come unto you; but
if I depart, I will send him
unto you.

16:8 And when he is come,
he [the Holy Ghost] will
reprove the world of sin,
and of righteousness, and
of judgment:

The Holy Ghost convicts
us that Jesus Christ is the
Lord!

1 Corinthians 12:3

Wherefore I give you to
understand, that no man
speaking by the Spirit of
God calleth Jesus
accursed: and that no
man can say that
Jesus is the Lord, but
by the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Spirit makes
the love of God known to
our hearts!

Romans 5:5

And hope maketh not
ashamed; because the
love of God is shed
abroad in our hearts by
the Holy Ghost which
is given unto us.

When Jesus met with his
disciples right before his
death and resurrection,
he told them that he
would send them another
Comforter (the Holy
Ghost) to be with them
(and all believers) "for
ever"!

John 14:16
And I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you
another Comforter, that
he may abide with you
for ever;

The Holy Ghost fills every
person the moment they
accept Jesus Christ as
their personal Saviour
and Lord of their lives.

John
7:38 [Jesus said:] He that
believeth on me, as the
scripture hath said, out
of his belly shall flow
rivers of living water.

7:39 (But this spake he of
the Spirit, which they that
believe on him should
receive: for the Holy Ghost
was not yet given;
because that Jesus was
not yet glorified.)

The Holy Ghost dwells
inside of every true believer's
body to help us live as
Jesus Christ would have
us to live.

1 Corinthians 6:19

What? know ye not that your
body is the temple of the
Holy Ghost which is in you,
which ye have of God, and
ye are not your own?

2 Timothy 1:14

That good thing which was
committed unto thee keep
by the Holy Ghost which
dwelleth in us.

The Holy Spirit teaches
us what to say in answer
to our enemies.

Mark 13:11 [Jesus:]

But when they shall lead
you, and deliver you up,
take no thought beforehand
what ye shall speak,
neither do ye premeditate:
but whatsoever shall be
given you in that hour, that
speak ye: for it is not ye
that speak, but the Holy
Ghost.

Luke 12:12 [Jesus:]

For the Holy Ghost shall
teach you in the same
hour what ye ought to say.

The Holy Ghost brings to
our remembrance Bible
verses we have memorized
to help us get through
temptations and trials, or
to witness to others about
salvation through Jesus
Christ.

John 14:26 [Jesus:]
But the Comforter, which
is the Holy Ghost, whom
the Father will send in my
name, he shall teach you
all things, and bring all
things to your
remembrance, whatsoever
I have said unto you.

The Holy Spirit fills us with
power to share the gospel
of Jesus Christ with other
people.

Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power,
after that the Holy Ghost is
come upon you: and ye
shall be witnesses unto me
both in Jerusalem, and in
all Judaea, and in Samaria,
and unto the uttermost part
of the earth.

Acts 4:31

And when they had prayed,
the place was shaken where
they were assembled together;
and they were all filled with
the Holy Ghost, and they
spake the word of God with
boldness.

The Holy Spirit sanctifies us
(sets us apart for God), and
seals us until the day of
redemption.

Romans 15:16

That I should be the minister
of Jesus Christ to the
Gentiles, ministering the
gospel of God, that the
offering up of the Gentiles
might be acceptable,
being sanctified by the
Holy Ghost.

Ephesians 1:13

In whom ye also trusted, after
that ye heard the word of
truth, the gospel of your
salvation: in whom also
after that ye believed, ye
were sealed with that
holy Spirit of promise,

Ephesians 4:30

And grieve not the holy
Spirit of God, whereby
ye are sealed unto the
day of redemption.

The Holy Ghost sometimes
stops us from doing things,
as He did to Paul.

Acts 16:6
Now when they had gone
throughout Phrygia and
the region of Galatia, and
were forbidden of the Holy
Ghost to preach the word
in Asia,

The Holy Ghost ("the Spirit
of truth") teaches us about
spiritual things, and helps
us to understand the Bible.

John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit
of truth, is come, he will
guide you into all truth: for
he shall not speak of
himself; but whatsoever
he shall hear, that shall
he speak: and he will
shew you things to come.

1 Corinthians 2:13

Which things also we speak,
not in the words which
man's wisdom teacheth, but
which the Holy Ghost
teacheth; comparing
spiritual things with spiritual.

The Holy Ghost calls people
to the Lord's work, sends
them forth, and makes them
overseers.

Acts 20:28

Take heed therefore unto
yourselves, and to all the
flock, over the which the
Holy Ghost hath made
you overseers, to feed
the church of God, which
he hath purchased with
his own blood.

The Holy Spirit, by His own
will, gives every believer a
gift. To read more about the
spiritual gifts, read 1
Corinthians 12:1 - 12:13.

Hebrews 2:4

God also bearing them
witness, both with signs
and wonders, and with
divers miracles, and gifts
of the Holy Ghost,
according to his own will?

Prophecies in the Bible
were written by holy men
of God who were moved
to write God's exact words
through the inspiration of
the Holy Ghost that
indwelt them after they
became believers.

2 Peter
1:20  Knowing this first,
that no prophecy of the
scripture is of any private
interpretation.

1:21  For the prophecy
came not in old time by the
will of man: but holy men
of God spake as they were
moved by the Holy Ghost.
