How Jesus Defeated Satan's Temptations

Jesus understands
when you are tempted
to sin because he
was tempted by Satan
in the desert for 40
days and 40 nights,
and also by his
disciple Peter, who
tempted Him to not go
to Jerusalem where
He would be put to
death for our sins.

Satan tempted Jesus
with the lust of the
flesh, the lust of the
eyes, and the pride
of life.

1 John 2:16

For all that is in
the world, the lust
of the flesh, and
the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life,
is not of the Father
but is of the world.

But, keep reading for
the good news of how
Jesus tells us to defeat
Satan!

The Good News is that
Jesus Christ defeated
Satan during each
temptation with the
Word of God! So, in
order to follow the
example of Jesus, we
need to know God's
Words

But before we study
more about Jesus'
victory over Satan's
temptations, it is
important to know
that if we memorize
Bible verses now that
are related to the
areas where we are
most vulnerable to
the temptation to sin,
they will help you
when temptations
come. Then when
temptation comes
the Holy Ghost will
bring to your mind
those verses that
will prick your
conscience and keep
you from giving in to
that sin! Jesus told us:

John 14:26
But the Comforter,
which is the Holy
Ghost, whom the
Father will send in
my name, he shall
teach you all things,
and bring all things
to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have
said unto you.

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things
through Christ
which strengtheneth
me.

1 Corinthians 10:13

There hath no
temptation taken you
but such as is
common to man: but
God is faithful, who
will not suffer you to
be tempted above
that ye are able; but
will with the temptation
also make a way to
escape, that ye may
be able to bear it.

James 1:12

Blessed is the man
that endureth
temptation: for
when he is tried, he
shall receive the
crown of life, which
the Lord hath promised
to them that love him.

Back to Jesus Christ's
victory of Satan's
temptations in the
desert...

Luke

4:1 And Jesus being
full of the Holy Ghost
returned from Jordan,
and was led by the
Spirit into the
wilderness,

4:2 Being forty days
tempted of the devil.
And in those days he
did eat nothing: and
when they were
ended, he afterward
hungered.

4:3 And the devil said
unto him, If thou be
the Son of God,
command this stone
that it be made bread.

4:4 And Jesus answered
him, saying, It is written,
That man shall not live
by bread alone, but
by every word of God.

4:5 And the devil, taking
him up into an high
mountain, shewed
unto him all the
kingdoms of the
world in a moment
of time.

4:6 And the devil said
unto him, All this
power will I give thee,
and the glory of them:
for that is delivered
unto me [from God the
Father in heaven]; and
to whomsoever I will
I give it.

4:7 If thou therefore
wilt worship me, all
shall be thine.

4:8 And Jesus answered
and said unto him, Get
thee behind me, Satan:
for it is written, Thou
shalt worship the Lord
thy God [in heaven],
and him only shalt
thou serve.

4:9 And he brought
him to Jerusalem,
and set him on a
pinnacle of the temple,
and said unto him, If
thou be the Son of
God, cast thyself
down from hence:

4:10 For it is written,
He shall give his
angels charge over
thee, to keep thee:

4:11 And in their
hands they shall bear
thee up, lest at any
time thou dash thy
foot against a stone.
[Possibly referring to
Psalm 91:12: They
shall bear thee up in
their hands, lest thou
dash thy foot against
a stone.]

4:12 And Jesus
answering said unto
him, It is said, Thou
shalt not tempt the
Lord thy God. [Possibly
referring to
Deuteronomy 6:16(a):
Ye shall not tempt the
LORD your God]

Another temptation
Jesus faced came
from his disciple,
Peter. When Jesus
Christ determined
that the time had
come for him to die
for our sins, he told
his disciples that he
must now go up to
Jerusalem to be killed.
Peter freaked out,
and expressed his
sharp disapproval of
Jesus going there.
But Jesus said that
Peter was thinking
as a sinful man thinks,
not as God thinks.
Jesus knew that if he
did not sacrifice his
sinless blood for us
on the cross, we would
all die in our sins and
spend eternity in
torment in hell!

Matthew

16:21 From that time
forth began Jesus to
shew unto his disciples,
how that he must go
unto Jerusalem, and
suffer many things of
the elders and chief
priests and scribes,
and be killed, and be
raised again the
third day.

16:22 Then Peter took
him, and began to
rebuke him, saying,
Be it far from thee,
Lord: this shall not
be unto thee.

16:23 But he turned,
and said unto Peter,
Get thee behind me,
Satan: thou art an
offence unto me: for
thou savourest not the
things that be of God,
but those that be of
men.

So, when you are
tempted to sin, please
know that Jesus
understands because
he was tempted just
as we are when he
was on earth in a
human body.

The Apostle Paul taught
that God will not allow
us to be tempted above
what we are able; but
will with the temptation
he will also make a
way to escape, that
we may be able to
bear it.

That is why it is
important to study and
memorize verses from
God's Holy Word, the
King James Bible,
because God's Word
was used by Jesus
Christ to defeat
Satan's temptations!

King David in the Old
Testament said that
he memorized God's
Word so that he
might not sin
against God. That's
a good example for
us!

Psalm 119:11
Thy word have I hid in
mine heart, that I
might not sin against
thee.
