Am I good enough to get to heaven?

I have heard it said that many

people think they will go to

heaven because they believe

they are a good person. They

believe that because they

haven't murdered anyone or

committed any major crimes

that that makes them a good

enough person to get into

heaven.

But by whose standards are

they judging their goodness

to get into heaven? Their

standards or God's? God's

standard of goodness to

get into heaven is perfection

because he cannot be around

sin! Yikes! That leaves me out!

But please keep reading for

good news is coming further

down in this post.

Habbakuk 1:13(a)

Thou [God] art of purer eyes

than to behold evil, and

canst not look on iniquity [sin]:

But please do not get

discouraged by that

news because there is

good news coming later

on in this Bible study.

1 John

1:8 If we say that we have

no sin, we deceive

ourselves, and the truth

is not in us.

Jeremiah

17:9 The heart is deceitful

above all things, and

desperately wicked: who

can know it?

Romans

3:10 As it is written, There is

none righteous, no, not one:

Romans

3:23 For all have sinned, and

come short of the glory of God;

But the good news is that

while we were yet sinners,

Jesus Christ died for us,

and rose from the grave

to show that God the Father

in heaven accepted His

Sinless blood sacrifice as

payment in full for our

sin-debt.

Romans

5:8 But God commendeth his

love toward us, in that,

while we were yet sinners,

Christ died for us.

We are not saved by our

good works or religious

activities. Salvation is a

gift from God. You do not

have to work (do good

deeds, go through

religious ceremonies,

or do religious activities)

to earn a gift. A gift is

free!

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is

death; but the gift of

God is eternal life through

Jesus Christ our Lord.

God tells us over and over

in his Holy Word (the KJB)

that we cannot earn our way

to heaven. Think about it. If

we earn our way to heaven

God would not have allowed

His Sinless Son, Jesus

Christ, to be tortured and

nailed to a cross to pay for

our sins! And if we could

work our way to heaven,

then Jesus died for no

reason. God says all the

righteous stuff we do (i.e.,

regular church attendance,

being baptized, taking

communion, paying tithes,

helping the poor, etc., etc.)

are as filthy rags to God!

Why? Because we are

all sinners and we can

never earn an entrance

into God's Holy presence

in heaven!

Isaiah 64:6(a)

But we are all as an unclean
thing, and all our
righteousnesses [good
works] are as filthy
rags;...

By thinking that we (sinful
human beings) can work
to earn an entrance into
heaven is another way of
saying to God: (1) the
sacrifice of your sinless
Son, Jesus Christ, on
the cross was not good
enough to get me into
heaven; but God with my
help I can earn my way
there and (2) I want to be
my own god and I have
a better plan to get into
heaven than you do God,
i.e., my good works, (being
baptized, taking
communion, paying
tithes, singing in the choir,
attending church regularly,
etc.)

If we believe we can earn
a way into God's throne
room when we die, then
we might as well be telling
God, "Thanks, but no thanks"
to His free Gift of salvation
that He offers through His
Son, Jesus Christ!

Galatians 2:21

I do not frustrate the
grace of God: for if
righteousness come
by the law [good works],
then Christ is dead in
vain.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is
death; but the gift of
God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ
our Lord.

Ephesians
2:8 For by grace are ye
saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God:

2:9 Not of works, lest
any man should boast.

God would like everyone
to be saved from their sins.
But since heaven is God's
throne room, and he cannot
be around sin, we have to
get to heaven God's way,
not our way! God's Holy
Bible (the KJB) tells us
how. Keep reading.

2 Peter

3:9 The Lord is not slack

concerning his promise, as

some men count slackness;

but is longsuffering to us-ward,

not willing that any should

perish, but that all should

come to repentance.

Matthew (Jesus said:)
5:34 But I say unto you, Swear
not at all; neither by heaven;
for it is God's throne:

Now for that good news I
told you about earlier!

Realize you are a sinner.
(God says we all are
sinners.)

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and
come short of the glory
of God;

Believe that Jesus Christ,
the Son of God, died for
your sins.

Romans 5:8
But God commendeth
his love toward us, in
that, while we were
yet sinners, [Jesus]
Christ died for us.

Repent of trusting
in anything other
than Jesus Christ
[i.e. good works]
to save you.

Titus 3:5
Not by works of
righteousness [i.e.,
good deeds, religious
ceremonies, money,
church traditions,
etc.] which we
have done, but
according to his
mercy he saved us,
by the washing of
regeneration, and
renewing of the
Holy Ghost;

Accept the gift of God
that is eternal life
through his Son,
the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is
death; but the gift
of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ
our Lord.

Jesus said we must
repent of our sins. To
repent means to have
a change of heart -
that we now desire to
turn away from our
sins and start living
in obedience to God
in heaven.

Luke 13:3
I tell you, Nay: but,
except ye repent, ye
shall all likewise
perish.

God tells us that as
many as received
Jesus as their
personal Saviour,
and believe on
his name, he
gave them power
to become the
sons of God.

So, if you accepted
Jesus Christ as
your Saviour and
Lord of your life,
you are now a
child of God!
Congratulations!

John 1:12
But as many
received him
[Jesus Christ], to
them gave he power to
become the sons of God,
even to them that believe
on his name.

It's important to learn
how to live a life that
honors God once you
accept Jesus as your
Saviour. Here is a link

I Do Now That I Am
